Mountain Height and Lake Depth are both being replaced by deeper versions from 4 November. Mountain Height grows from 17 mountains to 28, and Lake Depth from 17 lakes to 21, so the same handful stops coming round. The old versions retire the same day, so there is no gap and no overlap. Every height and every depth was re-derived from a second, independent publisher — national mapping agencies, geological surveys, lake authorities and park services — including the values already on the list, because a number nobody has checked twice does not count as checked. Mountain Height now runs from Mount Royal in Montreal all the way up to Everest, with Galdhøpiggen, Zugspitze, Mount Assiniboine and Ama Dablam among the new names. Four lakes did not make the new Lake Depth list: Lake Annecy, Lake Vättern and Issyk-Kul, where the managing agency's own figure disagreed with the published one by more than we will accept, and Lake Louise, where the best source we could find gives only "more than 70 m" rather than a measured maximum. Lake Titicaca and Great Slave Lake are not in it either — those two we left out on the name rather than the number. Puzzles you have already played are unchanged.
Thirty Gates: gate 0 opens wider
Gate 0 — the first gate of the day's course — now has a taller gap to fly through, starting with the 22 October course. Every other gate, Hard mode, and any course from before 22 October, Archive included, play exactly as they did.
Sorted: deeper elements
Atomic Number is being replaced by a deeper version from 28 October, growing from 15 elements to 23 so the same handful stops coming round. The old version retires the same day, so there is no gap and no overlap. Every atomic number was re-derived from a second, independent source, including the ones that were already on the list — a value nobody had checked twice does not count as checked. Lead, uranium and chlorine are not in the new list: the elements a player meets here are the everyday ones. Puzzles you have already played are unchanged.
Beam: a loss now shows your closest Check, not your last one
Finishing a round with the rings still dark used to summarize your last Check, even when an earlier Check in the same round had lit more of them. The end card now reports your closest Check instead: a new line reads, for example, "Closest Check ○●● — 2 of 3 rings lit, one ring to go," with a filled circle for a ring you lit and a hollow one for a ring that stayed dark. The Share text for a loss carries the same closest-Check figure now, not the last one. Wins, and how a round is scored, are unchanged.
Sorted: deeper lakes
Lake Depth is being replaced by a deeper version from 19 October, growing from 11 lakes to 17 so the same handful stops coming round. The old version retires the same day, so there is no gap and no overlap. Every depth was re-derived from a second, independent source — lake authorities, national surveys and encyclopaedias — and anything the two sources disagreed on was left out, along with several well-known lakes whose published maximum depth could not be confirmed away from a single source. That is why a few famous names are missing for now rather than listed with a number we could not stand behind. Puzzles you have already played are unchanged.
Stride
Hop across a six-by-six board of digits: the number under your feet is how far you go, and the cell you leave crumbles behind you. Keep hopping until the outlined cells run out, and try to reach the day's par of 28. You get three attempts on the same board and one rewind in each. Pass holders get Practice and the Archive.
Wheelpack, Sorted, Nerve, Tenfold: the end card scrolls into view now
Finishing a round used to sometimes leave the end card — Share button included — sitting below the fold, with nothing to bring it on screen. Now, the moment a round actually ends, the card scrolls into view and takes focus, so your result and Share are right there. Reloading a round you already finished is unchanged: nothing moves or jumps if you're just coming back to look.
Sorted: deeper rivers and elements
Two more of Sorted's thinnest categories are being replaced by deeper versions from 7 October. River Length grows from 10 rivers to 19, and Boiling Point from 10 elements to 28. The old versions retire the same day, so there is no gap and no overlap. River Length also gets fairer: its old list had five pairs of rivers too close in length to tell apart, and the new one has none — on its own that removes 25 of the 35 days in the coming year where the puzzle could not deal a properly separated board. Every value was re-derived from a second, independent source, and anything the two sources disagreed on was left out, along with several rivers whose length depends on whether you count a tributary system. Puzzles you have already played are unchanged.
Sorted, Nerve, Tenfold: the Archive is here
Pass holders can now open any past day of Sorted, Nerve, and Tenfold, the same way Wheelpack's Archive has worked since it launched — tap the Archive chip above the board or a past day in the week row to play it again. The daily puzzle stays complete and free for everyone; the Archive is a Pass extra.
Beam
Place mirrors on a five-by-five grid and bend the light through every ring. Nothing is traced while you place — press Check and the beam is drawn in one stroke, filling every ring it crosses. You get three Checks and one mirror more than par. Pass holders get Practice and the Archive.
Wheelpack, Sorted, Nerve: reloading mid-round no longer costs you
A reload used to hand back tries or attempts you'd already spent, while keeping whatever you'd already learned along the way — Wheelpack went furthest, wiping your dial history but still refreshing your attempts. Now a round in progress survives a reload as it was. Nothing about how the puzzles play changed.
Sorted: deeper landmarks and mountains
Two of Sorted's thinnest categories are being replaced by much deeper versions from 21 October. Tower Height becomes Structure Height and grows from 9 landmarks to 22 — the new name is the honest one, because the list mixes towers like the CN Tower with buildings like Taipei 101. Mountain Height grows from 10 peaks to 17. Either way the same few answers stop coming round. Every value was checked twice against separate sources, and anything the two checks disagreed on was left out — as were a handful of summits whose official height genuinely moves from year to year. Puzzles you have already played are unchanged.
Sorted: feedback drops the direction arrows
Each submission used to show a right/wrong slot mark plus an arrow pointing which way a wrong item needed to move. The arrow made the puzzle too easy — reading the board was enough to solve almost any category in a couple of tries. Feedback is now slot-only: 🟩 right slot, ⬜ wrong slot, no direction. Submissions went from three to four to give the puzzle room to be a puzzle again.
Tenfold: the end card says when a result didn't save
If your browser couldn't actually save your result — private browsing, storage full — the end card used to show a score that quietly never got stored. Now it tells you so, instead of showing a score that looks saved but isn't.
Nerve: the hidden clock tells you the window, and Non-Presser moved
Once the clock hides, you're no longer guessing blind: the game now states the numeric window the hidden time falls inside, and counts your hold up on screen as you go. The ⬛ Non-Presser badge also moved — it used to sit at the top of the ladder, which made not pressing the strictly best play. It now sits at the bottom, off the six colours, where "did nothing" belongs.
Tenfold: a losing board now ends
Some boards could run out the full drop sequence without ever overflowing, even when the bin was stacked well past the line — stacking blindly could outscore good play. Fixed: an overflowing board now ends. The tier ceiling and the overflow line moved to fit, and good play wins clearly more often than not thinking.
Wheelpack: Practice and Archive, with Fusion Pass
Pass now unlocks two new ways to play Wheelpack: Practice for fresh codes any time, and the Archive to replay any past daily back to launch. The opening move now costs from your torque budget like every other try, so a free centred guess is no longer the strongest open — the day's dial-steps budget was raised to make room for it. The daily code and your streak are unchanged.
Nerve: the game page says when the clock hides
The full rules always named the 45-second mark; the game page itself only said the clock hides "before the end." It now says when. No mechanic changed.
Rules tightened after the pre-mortems
Every game got a forensic pre-mortem, and four rules changed because of it. Thirty Gates is now best of three attempts a day, and the share card says which try. Wheelpack gives five tries but caps how far the dials can move per try, so it can no longer be brute-forced; the card shows par. Nerve's badges now reward how long you held, not how fast you flinched, and a day you hold to the end still counts toward your streak. Tenfold is one board a day, with discs resized so Tier 10 is reachable; Pass holders can practice the board again.
Tumbler is now Wheelpack
Tumbler is now Wheelpack. Same dials, same daily; your streak and history carry over.
